Get More Info is my answer to the need to QUICKLY change the type/creator information  for files. Sure there are a couple million type/creator changer drag-and-drop apps out there, but I always seem to have one window that is completely covering the icon of one of these apps, I also do not need one more icon on my desktop and most importantly, I want to make the changes FAST !!

  9. Get More Info is an extension that allows you to modify the type/creator, and also Finder flags for a file. You simply select the file(s) you want to modify in the Finder and either:

  11. - hold down the option key while choosing Get Info from the File menu.
  12. or
  13. - press option-cmd-I
  14.  
  15. a modal dialog will appear that allows you to change the  type/creator and Finder flags immediately,  no apps to locate and launch.

  17. Press the OK button to update the file, pressing Cancel will not modify the file at all. Press the 'All' button to change all the files selected to use the shown type/creator and Finder flags.

  19. Get More Info has been tested under System 7.0, 7.01, 7.01 w/ 1.1.1 Tuneup, and briefly on System 6.07. It has been testing on the following Macs:

  22. Mac IIcx
  23. Mac IIci
  24. Mac IIfx
  25. Mac LC
  26. Mac Plus

  28. System 6.0x notes:
  29. - Make sure you have enough available System heap. Use a heap utility like HeapFixer™ or BootMan to expand it if you don't have at least 40K free.
  30. - Files on the desktop cannot be modified. Move them off the desktop to edit them.

  32. Notes:
  33. - Files on the System 7 desktop that are actually on the desktop of a volume other than the startup volume can not currently be edited with 'Get More Info'. I'm checking into this.
  34. - Get More Info does NOT work on disk icons.
  35. - Get More Info is using undocumented file information that the Finder stores. This means that it will break when the System 7 Finder changes how it keeps the information. Fortunately this is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

  38.      version 1.0: - initial release.
  39.      version 1.1: - fixed a memory leak bug.
  40.                         - fixed the bug that pressing 'period' cancels, not 'command-period'.
  41.                         - the modification date of the folder containing the file being edited
  42.                                                      is changed so that the Finder 'sees' the new type/creator for the file.
  43.      version 1.2: - allows you to edit a folder's Finder flag information.
  44.                         - no longer shows error messages when it can't open the file. It just
  45.                            doesn't do anything.
  46.                         - added the option to change 'All' the files you have selected to use
  47.                                    the displayed type/creator/Finder flags.
